Why does my opening balance show a difference?

Everything the shop owns at the start (debtors, cash, bank, opening stock) must equal what it owes plus its capital. When the openings you typed do not balance, Masters → Opening Balances shows the gap as “Difference in opening”. Usually it is your capital that was never entered: the owner can press Put in Capital to book it, or correct the figure that was mistyped.
